Our school's Brass Ensemble has been in existence since 1961. It provides children with an opportunity to learn an instrument, to work as a team realising the importance of each person's contribution to the whole group's performance and to enjoy making music. Our approach is to provide lots of encouragement and acknowledgement of improvement and effort so that children have a positive learning experience.

The Ensemble has participated successfully in external competitions and performs regularly at school assemblies and functions. Children in years 3 to 6 are encouraged to join the band.

There are two bands. From Year 3 children are invited to join the Training Band as a first step. When they develop their skills and competence, they are promoted to the Ensemble.

No previous experience or any musical knowledge is necessary. An instrument is selected for each child with input from the conductor and parents. Training Band members attend a weekly lesson in small groups after school and a weekly band rehearsal before school. When Training Band Members are promoted to the Ensemble, they are awarded the Ensemble badge.

Ensemble members continue with their weekly after school lessons as well as two morning rehearsals each week with the whole group.

The organisation of the band is one of the services provided by the P & C Association through the Band Committee. The P&C employs the Band Conductor and music tutors and purchases music, instruments and equipment. Members of the Training Band and Ensemble pay an annual fee for tuition, instrument hire and conductors' fees.
